How the Game Is Played
If you are familiar with 7-card stud poker, then it would be a lot easier for you to play the 5-card stud poker. Like the former, there will be faced-up and faced-down cards. However, in the case of the latter, there will only be 1 faced-down card, and the rest (4 of them) will be faced up. Moreover, because there are only 5 cards that have to be played, this game can accommodate as many as 10 players for every table.
Five-card stud poker can also be played high-low. Usually, the one with the best low hand must start the bet fore every round, while the one with the best high hand must pay for the bring-in. At the end of the rounds, the one who possesses the highest- and the lowest-ranking hands will receive a portion of the pot.
Most of the five-card stud poker played these days, though, stick with the highest hand. If you have the highest combination, then you win the pot. Moreover, unlike other card games, the value of the ace can be both high and low, depending on whether you want the best low or high hand.
Variants of the Game
To make the game more exciting, you can settle for different variations of the 5-card stud poker. For one, you can go for the 3-2, which means there will be three face-down cards and 2 faced-up cards. Another version is 1-3-1, where the river card is dealt faced down instead of the usual face up.
Learning the Game Online
Though not a lot of online casinos have 5-stud poker, there are still others that do. You can sign up with them, and play the no-download poker version of the game. There is no need to install the software into your PC, so you can play the game anytime you want to, provided that you have an Internet connection. You can also take advantage of the free play area.
You will be given chips that you can use to participate in 5-stud poker games. This is ideal, so you can have an overview of how the game is played, especially when you have live opponents. You may not win any real cash, though.
